Gold Coast Underwater Maternity Photography with Gabi | Roshini M Photography

I met Gabi just after sunrise at Tallebudgera Creek. We both had our swimmers on and towels in hand, and her beautiful baby girl Poppy was still in her womb at 36 weeks pregnant.

We walked and chatted, then found a beautiful spot where the water looked clear, flat and perfect to jump in and play with.

I did a quick triple test of my camera for leaks inside its Aquatech housing then we were good to go.

We started in relatively shallow water, focusing on some half-in and half-out style shots outside the water before venturing in a bit deeper.

“...the water's weightlessness feels so damn good for mamma and the belly has bloomed enough to show off the baby bump.”

We were blessed with pockets of sunlight and crystal clear blue water that gave a deep green appearance from underwater. Gabi had the best time floating and swimming around in the gorgeous ocean, reminding me of how precious maternity photoshoots are, particularly here on the balmy and beautiful Gold Coast.

The third trimester is such an ideal time for underwater pregnancy photos; the water's weightlessness feels so damn good for mamma and the belly has bloomed enough to show off the baby bump.

The light and sun were warming up our skin, and the water temp was perfect. We stayed in for over an hour without any sense of chill.

The benefits of underwater photos during pregnancy

Maternity water photoshoots are fast becoming "on trend," and for so many great reasons.

Most importantly of all, being in the water is stress-free. In the early hours of the day, we usually have no one around us and the women I shoot often feel comfortable going topless, if not fully nude. Underwater photography is also a unique and creative way to capture your pregnancy. These photos transform so well into art pieces for your wall and tend to have a more creative feel than traditional pregnancy photos.

The water is versatile, with the light and buoyancy allowing so many creative ideas on how to pose yourself under the water. Being underwater also highlights the shape and curves of a woman's body perfectly, again creating stunning art that highlights pregnancy so magically.

Time-stamp your pregnancy for eternity

We all know the seasons of motherhood and pregnancy can feel like an eternity when you are in them, but the days and months truly do roll by fast. I know for so many pregnant women, the changes in their bodies put them off having a photoshoot, but honestly, you're not going to regret having this part of your life time-stamped.
